CHRISTMAS WORKSHOP AT CAMDEN TOWN LIBRARY
"I learnt that plastic is bad for fish"
- Hope (aged 6)
On 19 December 2011, Global Ocean in connection with Transition Primrose Hill hosted a Christmas themed eco-arts plastic workshop at Camden Town Library.

Arts educator, Edwina, along with her assistant, Lily, worked with the children to create marine-inspired Christmas decorations using an array of plastic bags, bottles, packaging, containers and of course tinsel!
Meanwhile, Global Ocean staff, Melanie and Amy, explained to the children the issue of plastic pollution and introduced them to the concept of reducing, reusing and recycling plastic. The children were quick to learn that marine life, as well as humans, can be severely impacted by plastic when it gets into the oceans.
The library was bursting with creativity and quickly became filled with amazing marine decorations including fish, jellyfish, starfish and dolphins. At the end of the day the decorations were taken home by the children to hang on their Christmas trees.
The children had a wonderful time and learnt a lot about the issue:
“I learnt that plastic is bad for fish” – Hope (aged 6)
“It’s bad to put plastic on the beach because it gets washed into the water and kills animals” – Felix (aged 8)
“Animals eat plastic and they don’t even realize” – Warda (aged 9)
Global Ocean would like to say a big thank you to all the children, parents and library staff for such an amazing day. Special thanks goes to Michael and Sue for making the day possible.
