Shen Yan Liow - Intern

Yan joined Global Ocean April 2011. She has assisted in various projects with her main focus on collaborations with the world largest shark fin consumer country, China. She builds connections with both Chinese and Hong Kong local NGOs, aquariums, museums and universities, to bring efforts together to raise awareness on shark fining and shark conservation. Yan graduated in 2009 studying film, broadcasting and multimedia design. She has developed her passion towards marine conservation while producing a multimedia piece on Humpback whales for her final year of university. The next year she joined ORCA (Organisation Cetacea) and has become an active member running surveys each year around Europe waters. She also works for Planet Whale and School of Whales to promote ethical whale watching around the world. She is involved in Whale Like Me film production, venturing her way to a whaling town in Japan to tell only the real truth. Every once in a week, she volunteers in the butterfly house at the Natural History Museum, London to communicate and engage the public in to the world of nature.
